Effects of Basic Path Properties on Human Path Integration
نویسندگان
چکیده
We investigated how path integration performance can be influenced by five basic path properties in a Virtual Reality Cube. Participants performed pathcompletion tasks in hallway paths with up to 12 segments. Distance information was visual, whereas turning angles were specified through vision and body senses. The ridge regression analyses suggested that path integration was affected by the number of segments, overall path length/turning angles, and the correct homing distance. Moreover, an un-correlation paradigm showed that path completion performance might be affected by participants’ expectations for the correct homing distance of different paths. Implications on models of path integration were discussed.

متن کاملNavigating without vision: basic and applied research.
We describe some of the results of our program of basic and applied research on navigating without vision. One basic research topic that we have studied extensively is path integration, a form of navigation in which perceived self-motion is integrated over time to obtain an estimate of current position and orientation. In experiments on pathway completion, one test of path integration ability, ...
متن کاملWhich way and how far? Tracking of translation and rotation information for human path integration.
Path integration, the constant updating of the navigator's knowledge of position and orientation during movement, requires both visuospatial knowledge and memory. This study aimed to develop a systems-level understanding of human path integration by examining the basic building blocks of path integration in humans. To achieve this goal, we used functional imaging to examine the neural mechanism...
متن کاملNeuronal Mechanisms of Contour Integration Investigated by Combining Psychophysical Experiments with Probabilistic Modelling
Contour integration is a dynamical process which links oriented, local elements into the percept of a coherent contour. Detailed psychophysical studies have described the basic properties of this process. In particular, studies on a contourdetection paradigm where subjects have to find a continuous path of Gabor elements embedded in a background of randomly orientated Gabor elements have demons...

Nowadays, the importance of the vehicles and its dramatic effects on human life is no secret. The use of trailers with multiple axels for transporting bulky and heavy equipment is essential. Increase in trailers axles which results increment of wheels, needs considerations in order to increase in transporting speed, maneuverability, safety, better control and path following accurately. Therefo...
